and cleansed of original sin4. Here God explains that the reason he had no original sin is because he is the first male born saint. Note that God refers to Saint John as the Baptizer instead of the Baptist to indicate that He is the one who baptized Him. The importance of St. John the Baptist in discussed in Chapter 22.
Section 4 Understanding Salvation - 13 The Mystery That Is Mary, Mother Of God

WHY MARY?
Why is Mother Mary Jesus' mother?
Is it simply because she was the first one who would have no original sin?
Is being conceived without original sin the only criteria God was looking for?
If so, why didn’t God wait for another one to come along?
Why did it have to be her and her alone –so much so that God pinpointed her from the very beginning as the promised woman who would give birth to the redeemer?
Why is she special?
The answer to these questions can be found in God’s revelation on who Mother Mary truly is, which explains the words in Her crown:
Ave Maria purisima sin pecado
concebida
(Hail Mary, most pure, conceived without sin)
